Non latin characters showing up as '?'

Hi all,

I'm testing orchard toward selecting a cms.
I have both the source version running on vs2012 and a distribution running on IIS. The database is mysql 5.5 and the relevant databases have the "utf8_unicode_ci" collation.

Whenever I enter non latin (Arabic, Hebrew) text in a title or body (thru the tinymce editor) of a page, the characters after saving show up as '?'. In the debugger I see that the correct values are sent to the server, but they're stored in the database as question marks.

Ideas and pointers are most welcome. I want to use orchard but it has to support multiple language input.

OK, figured it out.
all it took was adding "Charset=utf8" to the connection string, e.g.:
Data Source=localhost;Database=mydb;User Id=root;Password=root;Charset=utf8
