uninstalling orchard completely

Topics: Installing Orchard

I have used Orchard for a blog site for a couple of years and I now want to remove it.

Most recently I had installed the 1.8 release and used Web Platform Installer 5.0, which also seemed to install Web Deploy.

I could find no mention of how to uninstall Orchard anywhere in the online documentation or just generally Googling - terrible :(

So I uninstalled the Web Deploy tool (via Control Panel installed programs) and then removed the installed Orchard folder itself. Not sure if this was the right thing to do though - if anyone could confirm or explain how I should have uninstalled?

I notice in IIS 7 (not that I used that for Orchard) that there is an application pool reserved for Orchard still and I cannot remove that application pool because of that.

Any ideas?

  • Disable the website in IIS
  • Remove the complete website folder in your website/wwwroot
  • Delete the database (if SQL Express was used)
Orchard is not really to be uninstalled, you can just delete all of it.

Thanks for the info sanderg.
I removed the website in IIS and then could remove the application pool. All fine now.
