I have been struggling with getting the challenge email for new members to work properly. I've tried with several different SMTP servers, and finally signed up for a SendGrid account. Still to no avail.

In my Email Settings, I've got the following:
I've tried all kinds of variations on that, including true for both SSL and credentials, and have included my username and password. But nothing works.

When I send a challenge, Orchard indicates that it is sent. But nothing ever comes through to the receiving email account. And there are no messages in either orchard-debug or orchard-error.

I'm stumped here. Any idea what could be happening?

587 is a secure SMTP port and you need to check enable SSL and enter credentials.

You can test if your user name and pwd work using telnet: http://support.sendgrid.com/hc/en-us/articles/200182038-Testing-your-connectivity-to-Sendgrid-s-SMTP-relay-using-Telnet

That did it! All the docs say that 587 is insecure, but when I flipped it to SSL/Credentials, it worked perfectly. When I tried to telnet into 25 and 465, nothing really worked, which explains why I was having issues with those ports.

Thanks again! You da man!
