Orchard 1.7.1 and Mail Activity in Workflow

I've got a pretty simple custom contact form. I've got a workflow that triggers on content item creation (my contact form's content type), that has a mail sending activity.

The mail sending activity is configured with tokens for the fields from my content type, but all I ever receive or blank emails. I reported this in Orchard 1.7, and was told this was a known bug and was fixed in 1.7.1. I'm now running 1.7.1. Anyone have any ideas? Anything to check?

You can use form submitted event instead of content created.

Interesting! Why does content creation not work? Is the content not in a state to be read when that event is triggered?

Curious about the internals here.

Yes, the data is not persisted yet, AFAIK. I heard that in DOJO course videos, I don't know more about the internals. It also says, before the new form submitted event (1.7.1 I guess), the hack was to use a timer activity to cause a delay before sending the email.
