Hide part in custom form?

I have created a content type which I use in a custom form, it's fairly basic with a few text fields and the ReCaptcha part from the AntiSpam module. The twist is I'd like to make it available to both anonymous and authenticated users but have the ReCaptcha part show only for anonymous users.

I'm able to hide the part in the view by placing it in a separate zone and only rendering that zone if there is no current user. However when submitting the form, validation still occurs on the captcha.

Is there a way to get this to work?

There is a site setting for hiding the captcha for authenticated users.

Is that in 1.7? Because it's nowhere to be seen in 1.6

It is in 1.6. Look under Settings/Spam. It's there. I checked.

Odd! I have no Settings/Spam option... I'm using AntiSpam 1.6 with only the Anti-Spam feature enabled, Akismet and TypePad are disabled. I ended up hacking the module to hide the captcha for authenticated users myself.

Are you maybe using a different module? Or a new version that's not in the gallery? I'm lost.
