Installing 1.3.1 on GoDaddy - Error

Topics: Installing Orchard

I'm trying to install Orchard 1.3.1 on GoDaddy Shared Hosting using IIS 7 and ASP.NET 4.0. I've got an error that tells me the web.config is throwing an error. Anyone successfully installed Orchard 1.3.1 on GoDaddy that might give me some insight into any issues you might have encountered and overcome?

Some more info - I'm getting a 500 Server Error, and turning on detailed errors isn't giving me any additional insight. This is a new install.

Additional detail - the issue is definitely in the web.config. It's preventing me from seeing any error details, even though I've got detailed errors turned on. The first issue is in this part:

<configSections>
    <sectionGroup name="system.web.webPages.razor" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorWebSectionGroup, System.Web.WebPages.Razor">
      <section name="host" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.HostSection, System.Web.WebPages.Razor" requirePermission="false" />
      <section name="pages" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorPagesSection, System.Web.WebPages.Razor" requirePermission="false" />
    </sectionGroup>
    <section name="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler, log4net" requirePermission="false" />
  </configSections>

Any idea what's tripping me up here? It's not making much sense to me, as web.config debugging is definitely not my expertise.

I've commented everything out of the web.config until I just have this:

<configuration>
  <system.webServer>
    <httpErrors errorMode="Detailed" />
    <asp scriptErrorSentToBrowser="true"/>
  </system.webServer>
  <system.web>
    <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    <compilation debug="true"/>
  </system.web>
  <appSettings>
    <add key="webpages:Enabled" value="false" />
    <add key="log4net.Config" value="Config\log4net.config" />
  </appSettings>
</configuration>

And I get a detailed error message like I would expect. Obviously, the app won't run with all of the configuration removed. When I add any of the other items (or everything) I get a generic 500 error. I've called GoDaddy and their guidance was "your web.config is broken". Help!

Last bit of info:

If I use this web.config, I get a detailed error message (stating that access to App_Date\Dependencies is denied. There's no Dependencies folder since I haven't run through the setup wizard yet.).

If I remove any comments, I'm back to a 500 error. I may very well have App_Data access issues, but until I get past the web.config I won't know for sure.

Frankly I've never heard a good thing about hosting Orchard at GoDaddy but hey, maybe they improved, one can always hope.

I'm having similar problems. According to this post http://support.godaddy.com/groups/web-hosting/forum/topic/asp-net-hosting/?pc_split_value=4

a) In WebMatrix, set <customErrors mode=”Off” /> in the web.config file in your ROOT DIRECTORY.
b) In GoDaddy File Manager, select all folders in your root directory (check them all) and click “Advanced Permissions”. Check both Read and Write and apply.

I see from your previous email <customErrors mode="Off"/> already set and I've opened the permission on the folders, so I'm at a loss on how to get this to work.

thanks,

Jeff Jensen
