Hi, I getb the following runtime error message when i try to install orcahrd on after copying all files to my hosting. how can i go around with this error?

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

This is probably your db settings but to be sure diable custom error messages in you web.config as suggested.

what should i put in "mycustompage.htm" and should it be placed in root directory as well?

no no no, you don't need to create an htm file, you need to modify web.config to set the mode attribute. Ignore the defaultRedirect part. Set the mode to off, that's all. Then you'll see the real error.

I modifeid my web.config file but i still get the same error page. any other solution to this?

If you've added this and still getting the error then you are either changing the incorrect web.config file or the file is not formed correctly.  The web.config you need to change is in the Orchard.Web project and should look like this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
  <configSections>
    <sectionGroup name="system.web.webPages.razor" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorWebSectionGroup, System.Web.WebPages.Razor">
      <section name="host" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.HostSection, System.Web.WebPages.Razor" requirePermission="false" />
      <section name="pages" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorPagesSection, System.Web.WebPages.Razor" requirePermission="false" />
    </sectionGroup>

    <section name="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler, log4net" requirePermission="false" />
  </configSections>

  <appSettings>
    <add key="webpages:Enabled" value="false" />
    <add key="log4net.Config" value="Config\log4net.config" />
  </appSettings>

BTW - don't forget to change this back once you've fixed the bug:

<customErrors mode="Off" />
to
 <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />
