Installing Orchard for a Noobie?

Hi there,

I am trying to install Orchard, but here's the thing: I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to this CMS.  I'm looking into it to see if I can take on a job with it.

1. I have tried the Microsoft Web Platform Installer, but it says Windows has stopped working, tries to look for a problem, and then closes. Any thoughts on this?

2. Confused: Am I installing Orchard on my server or my computer? It sounds like my computer with the whole Microsoft Web Platform installer.

3. I have Media Temple as my host, but they're Linux.  Is it correct to say I need a Windows server?

4. Is there any way I can have a hosted Orchard to play with? Wordpress has Wordpress.com so you don't have to install it on your server. Does Orchard have something like that?

Appreciated,

Steph

Another away to install it would be

1. Install IIS7 or IIS 7 Express, and .NET 4.

2. Download Orchard.Web release from the downloads sections here on codeplex

3. unpack the archive and have a web app point to where you extracted orchard.web.

4. make sure your webapp's app pool is configured for asp.net 4.

5. browse to your web app url.

You are installing on your machine using Web Platform Installer.

Orchard does not run on linux AFAIK.

I don't know of any SaaS provider for Orchard, but I'm sure others in the community might be able to help you out.
