Our programmers currently use Visual Studio 2012 to code and design asp.net websites. We would like to start using our webmaster to manage content but not design or code. Can our programmers still use Visual Studio but or webmaster use Orchard? We only want him to affect content not templates or any code since he has no knowledge of coding. Is this possible with Orchard? Thanks!

Orchard is a CMS (too) so yes, your developers can continue to work in Visual Studio and your webmaster can manage the site's content through the web interface.

If the programmers are making changes using Visual Studio and the webmaster is making changes using orchard, then how do we make sure that we are not overwriting each others changes?

Programmers make changes to the application code while the webmaster makes changes to the content, i.e. the database and the Media folder's files.
