Incredibly silly question

I've done the "manual installing Orchard zip file" thing and gotten to the point where the documentation says:

To use IIS, extract the contents of the Orchard folder from the .zip file to an IIS virtual directory (or site root), and then view the site using a browser.

When I open a browser and go to "http://localhost" all I get is an error 404 message.

And yes, I do have Orchard setup in the site's root directory.

The problem, as far as I can tell, is that there's no file corresponding to the default like "index.html" or "Default.aspx" etc.

Obviously I'm missing something pretty basic here.  Where should I be going to get this running?

I've subsequently tried downloading the source and building it as described in the docs, but get same result.

I notice that the images in the docs show to a "Default.aspx" file in the list of files that is NOT included in the configurations I've seen.

No, you don't need a default.aspx or index.html. What do you have under the site's root?

Did you ensure that the Application pool is set to v4.0 Integrated Mode?

@Garpo - The application pool is set to Integrated mode and .NET Framework version 4 as indicated by the docs, although I don't understand why you think that has anything to do with a 404 error.

@bertrandleroy - The only thing on the site at this point is the Orchard stuff.

No, seriously, I was asking for a list of what you see under the site's root. Directories and files.

OK, thanks. What does the 404 screen look like? More like a IIS error screen or an ASP.NET error screen? Or something else altogether?
