Adding a simple side menu with links to different Page contents

I need a general guidelines on steps I need to take to add another menu, place it on the side of my page (not the main one) and link separate pages from it.

My Idea was that I create a Layer for all pages with that menu, add a second menu, configure it with content links and place this menu as a content to something like Aside Zone on this layer.

But my attemps totally failed. Where can I read about adding a separate page with side menu? Or what are the general steps to achieve this?

Thank you very much in advance.

P.S. When I say a side-menu I mean a menu like you can see in the right-hand part of this page

I did exactly what you outlined above.

I created a layer that would apply to only certain pages with a rule like this: URL("~/pageswithsubmenu*")

Then I created a menu to link to pages underneath that route.

Then, I added that menu to the layer I created in the first step.

I am using Orchard 1.51. No issues whatsoever. Even bilingual menus.

Hope this helps.

Can you also describe what failed? Adding a menu to side zone is the right way but you also need to control the list rendering via style sheet to ensure that it displays vertical and looks as you want it to look...
