Here are the rules:

To vote, you must have published at least one message on these Orchard forums before today, 10/9/2012 12:00PM PST. Participation by people not meeting this criterion will be considered null.

Voting will end 10/16/2012 at 12:00PM PST. No vote after this time will be accepted.

You get 5 votes each (as many as there are seats on the committee) that you can spread on one to five candidates. You can assign more than one vote on one candidate. Participations with more than 5 votes will be considered null.

You can only vote once.

You can vote by posting to this thread, or if you prefer to vote secretly, send e-mail to j7sfwllkltnqud3@jetable.org specifying your CodePlex alias (so we can verify the condition above). You will be given a token that will enable you to verify your vote. Your token will be visible by all but your name or alias won't. Only Adrian Noble, who is at the other end of that e-mail, will see your name.

The results will be recorded and shown here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Av8ggogUVszbdGkyT25oR0wweWh2RkF1UE1QbTVRa3c

Hello, I am not sure as to why my vote is counted as 'no activity' when I have made a few posts over the last couple years?

@chillibug: I think what has been done is just clicking on your profile: http://www.codeplex.com/site/users/view/chillibug which shows nothing but the votes.

That sound like a bug in CodePlex.

Yes, that's what the problem is. If you give me a pointer to any message, I will gladly count your vote. Apologies for the trouble.

@Bertrand I guess the same situation is with user 'malvenkemo' above. Google returns an entry and two bug reports - this and this

Googling for 'site:orchard.codeplex.com/discussions <username>' gives better information than viewing a profile. Smells like a Codeplex bug.

Little question, how to be sure that some people do not vote several times with different logins ?
Yes I know we are all honnest guies.....

Question to you then: how would you prevent double votes by the same 'physical' person? I'd love to hear your rock solid idea ;)

Oct 11, 2012 at 2:57 PM

I was serious, look I have 3 differents logins here. But humour is always pleasant and I won't occupy more space here.

We just ensure that this is a user that has posted discussions on Orchard Codeplex project.

I don't think many people have more than one user on Codeplex (like your csadnt and csadnt1).

But now you say it, I will remember this for next time, to create fake codeplex users, post a discussion, and make them vote for me 5x. ;-)

Tough choice - excellent candidates.

Oct 11, 2012 at 3:40 PM

@agriffard you get the idea, seiing people voting 5x time for one is somehow intrigating, isn't it ?

Coordinator
Oct 11, 2012 at 3:52 PM

I don't think there is anything we can do about this except verify everyone's identity, which would be both overkill and very costly. Asking for more stringent identification, such as an openId or something like this, would probably not be much more efficient and would prevent many people from casting a perfectly legitimate vote. The Voter ID problems that we know in the US right now come to mind. In the end, being on the steering committee is not, let's face it, an immense power, and I'm not convinced voter fraud on this election is going to significantly affect the outcome, unless one of the candidates is engaging in systematic fraud, which would be, frankly, silly. I don't know, any creative ideas?

Oct 11, 2012 at 3:59 PM

2x max votes for same candidate ? but that's true, certainly not an immense power :)

Coordinator
Oct 11, 2012 at 4:01 PM

OK, we'll consider that for next year. Sounds like a reasonable mitigation to me.

Oct 11, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Well, only thing that comes to mind that is somehow 'universal' : SMS verification.

As in you give your mobile phone nr 'privately', you guys send a confirmation code, you confirm with the code.

I know a Belgian service that allows this (see http://www.sms-tools.be no we're not affiliated ;))

Another way could be by having a 'verified' facebook account (since that is only possible if you linked it to a mobile phone or gave them your ID)

@AimOrchard: I would classify the first in the overkill and costly (time-wise) category, and the second in the overly restrictive and counter-productive category as it would prevent many legitimate votes from being cast.

@bertrandleroy Maybe for the next time we should consider max. 1 vote per candidate (so a voter would have to pick exactly five people - ie. his favourite team), what'd you think? Seems reasonable to me.

@piotr: Debatable. We'll vote on that next year.

Oct 12, 2012 at 3:31 AM

Is there a reason you couldn't just have people submit formatted e-mails (codeplex user name, each candidate separated by a vote or none)? You could've just written a script to process them all (we are developers, right? :) ).

My two cents. And my votes:

That would be asking for all kinds of trouble and would have, from my estimate, taken approximately 8 times longer to build. Less is more. And don't complain, I'm the one doing the counting. Also, I don't find a trace of your posting on these forums before so I won't be able to count your vote, sorry.

I would vote for everyone on there is well worthy though! :-)
