Some things missing in 1.4

I noticed, compared with 1.3, that the following things are missing:

  1. The Edit links for the zones like tripelfirst are missing so I need to go to the dashboard and widgets menu to be able to change these. Please fix this.
  2. The Lists content item is missing apparently. How can I make lists of an event content type now?

I have been following the guide which I found here: http://www.krisvandermast.com/downloads.html.

Re: #1, there is nothing broken to fix. If you searched you could find out why.

The List module is not installed anymore by default. You can download it from the gallery, or if you use the source enlistment it's there.

There are two features, Content Control Wrapper and Widget Control Wrapper. I've made this reply a few times just the last couple of days, so as TheMonarch said; if you would have done a search you would have found those answers.

Instead of using a List, you may want to give the Projector module a try. It pretty much deprecates Lists.

Thank you for the information. I just wonder why it was taken out from the default.

Any other things that got moved into modules since 1.4? Is there actually a page available with the (rather strange) adjustments?

Because it is rarely the right solution. If you want to set-up container/contained relationships, you can use Containable and Container parts, and if you want to make queries over contents, you should use Projector. In other words, Lists are deprecated.

I will try it out. Thanks!

Something else: I noticed that slugs do not get created anymore dynamically? Also has to do something with a missing module out of the box perhaps? This is for pages btw.

They do. They just don't show up in the text box. Leave it empty and it will get created.

Still, it feels like missing functionality compared to 1.3 to me. Can it be brought back or what was the main decision to get this out in the first place? I liked it and likely others did too. Just wondering.

Yes, the main decision was to get this out. It was creating too many problems. You can't possibly know the alias before you publish the item (because the alias pattern can use arbitrary tokens that may not make sense until then), so you would need to make a bogus publication in the ajax call. This is what we were doing before and people were complaining about it, so we removed it. One can't please everyone.

So I've searched and searched for "Edit Links" but this is the only thing I can find. What should I search for? All of the tutorials I have ( the one on Pluralsight.net) show the Edit Links and nothing tells how to turn them on. I'll search for another hour but if I don't find it I may have to put Orchard on hold again. I hate it when something works forever and then a new release comes out and I try it and then some simple thing that used to work doesn't any more. I'll go take a look at the release notes to see if I see anything.

Thanks,

Bob

Thanks.

I looked at the release notes but did not find anything.

Then since I didn't know what to search for I just started at the troubleshooting list and kept hitting NEXT until I got to the 11th page where I found discussiong #348967.

Your article reference is good - and I agree with the change. I always wondered if that could be a problem and at one time figured out how to turn off the edit links. But today I couldn't find where I had seen that and couldn't remember where to go. For sure this link is going in my favorites now!

Thanks,
Bob

FYI, search for "edit links", and this is the 7th search result: http://orchard.codeplex.com/discussions/279273

Just sayin' :)

Hmmmm.. So would it be better to always use the lower case for the entire phrase or is that just for this particular case? I hadn't thought of that...
