500 Server Error on install - 0 byte response

Hi,

Completely new to IIS and Orchard.

  • Have IIS running.
  • Downloaded zip file and extracted to C\inetpub\wwwroot. Renamed "Orchard" directory to mysite.com
  • In IIS Manager right-clicked and "Add a new site...", choose folder, entered details
  • Went to http://localhost, got "Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'."
  • Went to Application Pools, chose the new pool, edited framework to .NET 4, recycled
  • Restarted website
  • Went to http://localhost, this time I get no output. Firebug tells me I got a 500 error response of 0 bytes.

I see no entries in the log files or event viewer so I'm completely lost at this point. I'm sure it's something simple but no idea what.

Thanks in advance!

That's weird. Can you turn custom errors off in web.config?

Thanks but that didn't help. I have managed to get it working, wasn't fun though:

  • Uninstalled Windows Process Activation Service and IIS
  • Reinstalled IIS (default) plus ASP.NET option
  • Unzipped Orchard 1.4 and moved Orchard directory to c:\inetpub\wwwroot
  • Converted the folder to an application in IIS Manager, browsed to site
  • At this got "Handler "NotFound" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list" error
  • Ran "aspnet_regiis.exe -i" as administrator to (re?)install ASP.NET
  • Changed application's Application Pool to the new ASP.NET v4.0 option, browsed to the site
  • Now I get "Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Orchard\App_Data\Dependencies' is denied."
  • Added "NETWORK SERVICE" to the folder's security with Execute, List, Read permissions

Yes, what likely happened was that your IIS had no configured module able to handle the request, hence 500 with empty response. I've seen that happen. Re-installing asp.net was the right thing to do.
