Creating (not authoring) a Widget

I see that "Html Widget" is an out-of-the-box content type.  And since there is a "Create new type" button, I figured I could make my own widget as well.  So I made the widget, and added the part I cared about (which was a MailChimp part from a module I installed) and then tried to add my newly created type into a side-bar.  Unfortunately, my newly created type is perceived as being a list - not a widget - so it does not show as an option I can place into a sidebar.

What am I doing wrong?

Incidentally, I already tried adding the MailChimp part to the existing "Html Widget," but I discovered that every Html widget on my site gained the MailChimp rendering (despite leaving its fields blank).  So this latter trick doesn't appear to be an option at this time.

That's a current limitation of dynamic content types. It still needs to be created in code.
