hi,

I am new to  orchard and i am try to create custom module and i downloaded the source to do so. According to http://docs.orchardproject.net/Documentation/Setting-up-a-source-enlistment

It seems that orchard source will only open visual studio, my question can i use visual web developer 2010 to create orchard sites. if your answer is NO why a open source CMS source only opens in a commercial product :-)

correct me if i am wrong ?

thanks

shiva

Sure, you can open src\Orchard.web as a web site from VWD. The process to create modules in this type of configuration is exposed here: http://docs.orchardproject.net/Documentation/Creating-a-module-with-a-simple-text-editor

And if you want to compile the whole thing (but you shouldn't have to just for module development), you can do so from a .NET SDK command-line.

thank you ,  But  if i could open  the whole source code in visual web developer 2010 it would be great to just add an area and get  and use all the advantages of VWD to make my work faster

Please let us know if there is way .Thanks a lot for quick response

Why? What other files than those in src\orchard.web do you need to open to develop modules?

vow that was really quick

first thing whole when i open Orchard.web in VWD2010 i am getting dependency errrors

Error    1    Could not load type 'Orchard.Web.MvcApplication'.    Orchard.Source.1.3.9\src\Orchard.Web\Global.asax    1

i  want to follow this tutorial below is it possible with VWD2010

http://docs.orchardproject.net/Documentation/Walkthrough-Writing-An-Orchard-Module

Yes, as I said, open it as a web site, not a web application. Do not try to open and compile the project file, that won't work. Follow the tutorial I linked to, not that one.

You can open the whole solution in VWD (this is what I do) but you can't add an area like you can normally do with MVC (each Orchard module is an MVC area already). If you're getting MVC errors you might need to install an updated MVC version.

The solution file is Orchard.sln, you'll get errors due to solution folders not being supported, but it will open eventually, then you can delete the solution folders (at the bottom of the list) to stop the errors.
