I am getting the following error while running for first time the orchard (From web platform installer, version 10/12/2011) project in VS2010 SP1: "object reference not set to an instance of an object". The file is markdown.csproj on line 1.

I do not know how other people have got along with this.

The error disapeared when runing only the orchard.web project within the download folder.

I am currently having this issue as well. Pulled the latest Orchard release tonight and this is the first thing it did. :(

Is this still a problem? I can't reproduce.

I have the same issue.

What I did?

  1. Downloaded
  2. Extracted to a folder
  3. Open Web Site from VS2010 SP1, select the folder where Orchard was extracted.
  4. Build -> error

VS have MVC 3 and the Tools update.

Any guidelines how to deal with it?

If you want to build from Visual Studio, you need the full source code.

Thanks! Works fine now!

Thank you. Downloading the full source code builds fine.

I am also having problems with this issue, and have not been able to resolve it by rebuilding all... I launched visual studio from the "files" panel.  Funny thing is, it seems to have modified my environment, and the "clean all" command is missing from the context menu in the solution explorer, and when I add the "Clean solution" command manually through customization, it's disabled.

Is invoking visual studio from webmatrix not recommended?

Strange; what happens if you load VS normally?
