Importing pieces of a content item

We're using the import/export module to pull in content from a previous CMS the site used to reside in.  We imported the pages, and now some time has passed. Development has continued, and new parts and fields were added to the page content type, so now we have:

Old joomla site:
Page content

New orchard site:
Page content
  Contains an HTML field called SubBody
  Contains the Vandelay Meta/SEO part

We now need to get the metadata information from the old site imported into Orchard. The issue is that when we import the meta/SEO stuff into the vandelay part, it blows away the SubBody field.  Since the subbody field is new, we can't just include it in the import.  What I would have assumed would happen is if I just excluded the SubBody node in the import XML, it would ignore it, but it instead blows it away.  Is there a way we can make it so that if we don't include a piece in the import, it doesn't blow it away, it just ignores it?

Here's the import we want to run:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?><!--<textarea style='width:100%; height:100%;'>-->
<!--Exported from Orchard-->
<Orchard>
  <Recipe>
    <Name>Generated by a custom Joomla export script</Name>
    <Author>tjans</Author>
	<Total>6</Total>
  </Recipe>
  <Data>
	<Page Id="/Route.Slug=mypage" Status="Published">
	  <ContentId>1</ContentId>
	  <MetaPart Keywords="some,key,words" Description="a description" />
	</Page>
</Data>
</Orchard>
<!--</textarea>-->

I don't see a subbody node in there.
