after the first request orchardhost is created.

what kind of events could happen, that take down the orchard host?

e.g.

1)change of web.config auto restarts the whole app.domain

2)iis restart

3)idle timeout of the iis app pool (configurable)

is i true that under normal conditions, the orchard host is always "active" if not, the auto publishing of articles by date wont work or?

It's no different to any IIS website; and it entirely depends how the IIS AppPool is configured. By default it gets recycled after a relatively short period of inactivity. There could also be memory / CPU limits that trigger a recycle (note that Orchard uses quite a lot of memory so this can become relevant). Finally, changing any files that require restart/recompilation will cause a recycle - Web.config, modules, etc.

thanks for your reply.

changing files e.g. could be a problem in my case.

i have to research if this can be disabled. if i find anything usefull i will write down the results here.

Why is changing files a problem? Which files will be changing?

It is not true that any change to any file will cause an appdomain recycle. Even compilation is not necessarily causing a restart.
