Greg Duncan just blogged about a great open-source server side image resizing tool. This plus Orchard would seem like a marriage made in Heaven.

Looks like it's got a lot of features. I'll look at integrating it with Media Garden, I needed to add image resizing pretty soon anyway.

Ah, the big problem being it requires Web.config modification for its handler. And I strongly doubt the devs are going to want anything this advanced as core functionality! Especially since it'd require quite a massive reworking Orchard.Media worked (which is basically what I'm doing with Media Garden but effectively as a complete replacement)

Hopefully since it's open source I can implement actions to replace the HttpModules for use in Orchard.
