In order to support MySQL in Orchard you'd need to implement a new DataServicesProvider. This data provider can be hooked up, for instance, in the setup module for orchard under a new feature. A few other small tweaks to the setup are required to be able to input parameters like the connection string.

I've uploaded an example into the gallery under:

http://orchardproject.net/gallery/List/Modules/Orchard.Module.Orchard.Setup

Please note that this does NOT include the required DLL's so u'd have to get those after deploying this setup module in replacement to the one that ships with Orchard.

Also note that none of the suggested providers seems to work under medium trust OOB. As such, you may have constraints in some hosting environments.

Very nice. Is the source code for your module available anywhere? I am bringing my source code base up from v1.0 to v1.2, and would be interested in using your module rather than the one I did previously which was not easily installable. But I deploy from source code, so I would like to know where I can get the source from?

When you install the module, the source is included. I have created the codeplex project http://orcharddbproviders.codeplex.com/ but it's still pending publishing (accept license from outercurve foundation etc). Should be online in the next few days.

How do I extract the stuff out of the package file, without installing the module into a working server? Is the file in a standard format, like ZIP or something?

Never mind, I opened it with 7-zip and it appears to be a standard archive format :)

Ok, looking at the code this appears to be just a replacement for the Orchard.Setup module with MySQL functionality included, rather than a modularized database system. So it is not much different to what I did before. Also, I did not see the MySQL and SQLite data providers in the download? It just had the modified setup module, without the new data providers?

Hi.

When I try to setup a website with mysql provider, I got this error:

"Column 'ReservedWord' does not belong to table ReservedWords"

It seems that the problem is the fluently configuration that doesn't have the "hbm2ddl.keywords" setted to 'none'.

Any tips?

What's the status of a MySQL module or patch? The link to the other codeplex project (http://orcharddbproviders.codeplex.com) is either wrong or that project still hasn't been approved.

Did you try to ask the author of the module through the gallery contact form?
