Steven Smith in his presentation "Improving ASP.NET MVC Application Performance" (http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/mvcConf/mvcConf-2-Steven-Smith-Improving-ASPNET-MVC-Application-Performance ) delivered as part of Microsoft's mvcConf (http://www.mvcconf.com/ ) suggests that adding the following lines to Global.asax.cs can provide substantial performance improvement for MVC applications that only use the Razor view engine.

Would this be appropriate for Orchard?

     ViewEngines.Engine.Clear();
     ViewEngines.Engines.Add(new RazorViewEngine());

It might. We would be breaking compatibility because currently you can use other view engines with Orchard but maybe that's something we could put in settings.

After a short inquiry, it seems like this would have minimal impact at best. Thanks for the suggestion though.
