Address Bar Icon

Jan 14, 2011 at 4:42 PM

Hi,

I have been experimenting with Orchard.  I am loving what I am seeing so far and have put up a basic site at http://sevenshadow.com using TheThemeMachine as a start.

I had two questions.  First, how do I change the address bar icon (e.g. favicon.ico).  It seems like I may need to override the document.cshtml page, but when I do the page looks funny.  Any suggestions.

Secondly, when I try to walk through the following:  http://www.orchardproject.net/docs/Customizing-the-default-theme.ashx the orchard.exe file doesn't seem to recognize the "codgen" command.  I am just running the orchard.exe file that was in the bin of the default orchard when I unzipped from the zip file.

Thanks

favicon.ico is simply a file, replace it with anything you like.

You just need to make sure your new file has the same name (favicon.ico).

For anyone that might find it useful, here is information on Favorite Icons > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon

Yeah, you can replace the icon, or you can register a different header. There should be no need to modify document.cshtml directly.

Ok, when you say register a different header.  What do you mean exactly?  I am new to this theming..

Well, you should be able to add a shape to the head section like this: layout.Zones.Head.Add(myshape, ":after");

It would be an interesting module actually: Add a site setting for the favicon, and have a filter inject that shape. Provide a base template for that shape in the module views.

If you don't know how to do that I might give it a try one of these days. When I have time :)

Install the module from the gallery, then enable the feature.

Bertrand,

I use a third party tool to create .ico files, but there are probably 100s of ways to do it. Do you have any links to a walkthrough on creating an ico file with any of the free (or otherwise) Microsoft tools?

And thanks for your module.

Hi Bertrand,

Thanks so much for doing this.  I really appreciate it.  One thing, I tried to install and I get the following:

Package installation failed.
There was an error installing the requested package. This can happen if the server does not have write access to the '~/Modules' or '~/Themes' folder of the web site. If the site is running in shared hosted environement, adding write access to these folders sometimes needs to be done manually through the Hoster control panel. Once Themes and Modules have been installed, it is recommended to remove write access to these folders.
Value cannot be null. Parameter name: input
Other packages are installing, so do you have any ideas?

Charlie,

The module installs fine on my machine. I know, lame thing to say but I'm not sure where to start. Can you try to manually remove the module's folder and start over?

Hi Bertrand,

I started again, and it works now. Not sure what that was. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate it.

It installed for me, but can't find the place to configure it?

I'm on the 1.x trunk (as of today).

It's under settings/favicon.

Check your logs. There is probably an exception preventing it from working. Likely a mismatch between the version of Orchard and the version of the module.
